| Position | Engagement type | Location | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Project Manager Rural EMS transformation and TPF projects | Independent contractor | Remote, United States, with periodic travel to Nebraska | Open, rolling review |
| Finance Director Federal award and nonprofit financial administration | To be confirmed | Remote, United States | Expected shortly, pending board action |
Additional positions supporting the Nebraska rural EMS transformation initiative are in preparation. Some of those roles will be employed by the regional entities being formed under that program rather than by TPF. Where that is the case, the posting names the employer and states where applications are received, because hiring decisions rest with the hiring entity.
How TPF engages people
Three routes in, and what each one means
Employees and officers
Salaried roles and officers of the corporation. Officer compensation is established by the Board of Directors. Fair Labor Standards Act classification is determined at hire and confirmed against the salary basis and duties tests. These roles are posted individually.
Independent contractors
Engaged under TPF’s standard Consultant Agreement with a numbered Scope of Work stating services, deliverables, schedule, fees, and availability. TPF provides a Microsoft 365 account, and all engagement work product is created and stored in TPF’s environment.
Subject matter expert bench
TPF assembles teams around what an engagement requires. Experts can receive work through TPF or bring their own projects under its operational umbrella, which includes liability coverage, financial administration, and legal review of contracts and deliverables.
If none of the open positions fits and the work does, the expression of interest page describes the knowledge domains TPF is actively building and how to make contact.
What working with TPF is like
TPF is not a staffing agency and it is not a large consulting firm. There is no billable hour culture and no layer of account managers between a consultant and the work. TPF supplies the organizational infrastructure, the client relationships, the contracts, and the mission context. The consultant supplies what only they know.
TPF’s clients are predominantly governmental entities working to externally imposed deadlines. That shapes the working expectations more than anything else about the organization: communications are answered within one business day, schedule risks are raised before a deadline passes rather than after, and work product is documented to a standard that survives an audit. In federally funded work, documentation is not administrative overhead. It is the evidence that the work happened.
Most roles are remote and distributed across time zones, and most involve periodic travel to the states TPF serves. TPF works with the same people across multiple projects and multiple years, because trust is an operational asset in this field.
Equal opportunity
The Paramedic Foundation is an equal opportunity organization. TPF does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity, or any other characteristic protected by law in its employment, contracting, engagement, or program activities.
If a disability makes any part of the application process inaccessible, write to info@paramedicfoundation.org and TPF will arrange an alternative.
Straight answers about applying
Does The Paramedic Foundation hire paramedics?
Yes, and paramedic credibility matters in most TPF roles, but a paramedic credential is rarely a minimum qualification on its own. TPF’s work sits where paramedicine meets governance, finance, federal grant compliance, data, and state policy, so its roles draw equally on people from county administration, public health, nonprofit finance, and research. Where a posting states a credential as a minimum, it also states how a candidate from an adjacent field qualifies instead.
Are TPF positions remote?
Most are fully remote within the United States, with periodic travel to the state a project serves. TPF has no central office. Its registered address in Duluth, Minnesota is a mail address rather than a workplace, and its people are distributed across the United States, Canada, and beyond.
What is the difference between an employee role and a contractor role at TPF?
An employee or officer role is a position within the corporation, with Fair Labor Standards Act classification determined at hire and, for officers, compensation established by the Board of Directors. A contractor role is engaged under TPF’s standard Consultant Agreement with a numbered Scope of Work that states the services, deliverables, schedule, fees, and availability commitments. Each posting states which it is.
How are applications reviewed?
Applications go to the email address stated in the posting, with the position title in the subject line. Reviews are rolling unless a posting states a closing date. Finalists for some roles are asked for a writing sample, because a large share of TPF’s work product is written and the standard it is held to is stated in TPF’s style guide.
Does TPF pay its board members?
No. Board directors are not paid for board service. Where a director is separately engaged and paid as a TPF consultant, that engagement rests on a Consultant Agreement and a Scope of Work and is not a term of board service.
Not seeing your role?
TPF is expanding its bench faster than it is posting positions. If you are the genuine expert on one hard problem in this field, say so.
